Post Race Report-2025 Barber

At “The Augusta National of Motorsports,” Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama was home to the penultimate round of the 2025 Cube3 Architecture TA2 series season.  The 2.38-mile road course, known for its challenging elevation changes and technical flowing turns, presented a new challenge for the Trans Am TA2 competitors as this was the series’ first trip to the circuit known as the “Alabama Rollercoaster.”

With only one practice session on Friday, the teams and drivers had to learn the track and their car setup quickly.  Saturday provided one more practice and then it was onto qualifying that same afternoon.  Cale was able to pick up the track relatively quickly and make solid gains in lap times running all the laps in both the practice sessions.  Once qualifying was complete, Phillips found himself with another great result, the 14th overall starting spot and 3rd in the Pro/Am category.

Sunday afternoon meant it was racing time with the sun shining and drying the track from rain earlier in the morning.  At the drop of the green flag, the whole outside line seemed to get squeezed a bit wide at the exit of turn one, resulting in several cars clipping the edge of the grass.  Unfortunately, Phillips was one of those cars and suffered front splitter damage along with a windshield covered in mud.  He would hit pit road immediately and the team got to work cutting off pieces of the damaged splitter and front fender.  Cale would return to the track six laps down, in hopes of salvaging some points in the tight Pro/Am championship battle.  The race would go green for the entirety of the 42-lap race, which did not provide any chance for much improvement in his finishing position.  It was a 20th place overall result and 10th in Pro/Am.

“Tough one today.  Not sure what really happened there at the start, I was just following the outside line of cars and the next thing I knew my windshield was covered in mud, and I was off in the grass.  Not the points day we were looking for, especially with such a great starting spot.  Thanks to the Nitro guys for the effort to get the car ok to go back out, just unlucky no one else really had any issues to allow us to gain any positions.  Hopefully we can end the season on a good note in a couple weeks at COTA.”
