Post Race Report-2025 Watkins Glen

In the rolling hills of the finger lakes region of NY, Watkins Glen International hosted round eight of the 2025 Cube3 Architecture TA2 series.  The track called the superspeedway of road courses always provides fast and exciting racing, and this year was no different.

A condensed two-day schedule saw three practice sessions on Friday.  Cale struggled a little to find pace, as mistakes seemed to hamper putting together a good fast lap.  A major benefit of being part of the Nitro team is being able to look at and share data and video amongst all the drivers.  After some review, and slight adjustments to the car, Cale was able to pick up the lap times come Saturday morning qualifying.  The result would land him an 18th overall starting spot, and 5th in the Pro/Am category.

By race time the sun was shining, and track temps were up.  A clean start saw Phillips settle in as an early caution on lap three slowed the field behind the pace car.  Cale was able to make his way up to 15th overall and was in contention for a Pro/Am podium spot right behind the second and third place competitors when a fuel pump failure forced the #99 driver to pull the race car off the track on lap 13 of the 30-lap race.  As numerous post-race penalties/infractions were handed out, the result was a 16th place finish overall and 8th in Pro/Am.

“That’s racing unfortunately.  I have not had a mechanical issue since Sebring last season, so not something we are used to experiencing on this #99 car.  We were right there in contention again in Pro/Am and probably would have kept the podium streak going.  Thanks as always to the Nitro Motorsports guys, nothing anyone could’ve done differently to prevent it.  Now we will take a bit of a break for the next 9 weeks and be back at my favorite track, VIR, in September.”
